There is a need to feel socially supported, emotionally protected, and physically safe. If the person does not feel safe, it does not foster an any possibility for them to feel secure in their coming out process. That is why it is important to have a safe place for the youth to turn. There also can be changes done in schools to assist with the safety of the LGBT youth. It is important for school to have clear rules set that promote and ensure a healthier function for all youth. If there were more support groups, allowing the students to feel safer, there would be a decrease in suicidal attempts when schools implement policies prohibiting expression of homophobia. These people will be there to talk and listen. They will provide support and guide the youth with the necessary resources available for them in their area. More research needs to be done to understand the effectiveness of support groups. There should be an understanding of the utilization, and if there is a low usage what would the probable cause be regarding this nonuse. It is also important to understand the volumes in which this particular support group can positive effect the youth. There needs to be sexual educational resources available for this youth group. Often times, there are not a lot of information associated with sex ed in the LGBT community. Experience should not be education. It is important for the youth that identify with this orientation to know about safe consenting sex. It is important for the parents of the youth to stay involved and a support system for the youth and effective communicate the need for protection.
