As argued by Ole waiver (23), societal security involves the ability of the society to deal with the changing conditions and the possible threats. Immigrants are always thought and perceived by society as a security threat because of the different influences not only in cultural, language, religion but also self and nation identity. In the article by Simon Kuper, the Belleville is packed with Muslim immigrants with Paris region having many Muslim immigrants. Therefore, the national values of the host country become the major object of the threat. Generally, this threat is caused either legally or illegally by immigration as immigrants pose the challenge through religion, culture or language. It is sometimes amusing to think about societal values placed upon immigrants. Each country has its own personal definition of which is an immigrant threat and which is not, therefore it is subjective to change as their society change and time elapsed. In Europe and United States this threat has been there since the beginning of 1980s. In Countries like Germany and France immigration has been featured highly on counter – terrorism agenda. Their government has highly tightened their immigration policies by linking them with terrorist activities. In countries like United States immigration policy became one of the strategies to combat terrorism. Back in the day when United States created the Immigration and Naturalization Service, the idea of this new agency is to regulate and control the in and out of immigrants. Immediately after its creation, many Western European countries have supported this immigration policy. In order to secure the receiving country’s internal sanctuary, some have argues in the support of enacting immigration policy. A clear example, in France the rate of immigration per capita cannot be thoroughly screened; therefore, posing a risk of dangerous people may enter the country. France finally resolved that the most practical way of dealing with the immigrants is to reduce the number of immigration flow each year. While some argues that there is a relationship between immigrants and terrorism, there are no hard evidences to support the claim, yet both of these issues posed great threats to security balance.
