Separation of Church and State is the Establishment Clause and Free Exercise Clause of the First Amendment to the Constitution of the United States. Separation of Church and State has been accepted by the Congress , as they apply it to any issue that has to do with Religion. Separation of Church and State is supported by those who think that the State shouldn’t be affiliated with the Church. However , many disagree with the fact of having the Congress to separate both the Church and State because to them the Constitution doesn’t give the government a right to make that decision of separating them. The Church and State both have different issues. Some issues bring them together but immediately are being separated by the Congress. Separation …show more content…
Therefore , Americans should respect the Separation of Church and State in order to respects our citizens personal freedom. As Ralph Reed recently from the New York Times told an audience at Harvard, "While we are sometimes divided on issues, there remains a broad national consensus on core values and principles."(NYT) All of our issues revolved around freedom of religion. For example , prayer in school has been an issue recently. Religious parents have argued with their children’s school board about having prayer in school. As a religious person I disagree with those parents , I disagree because all they have developed is a big argument. As American citizens we are all allowed to pray anywhere.Religious people shouldn’t force anyone to pray if they don’t want to. As religious people that believe in God we should give respect to others and let them choose for themselves. Be devoted to one another in brotherly love. Honor one another above yourselves. (Romans 12:10).Therefore , we shouldn’t …show more content…
Whether is Religious people or Atheist , many disagree with the decision this woman made. Kim Davis became very popular when she denied a same sex marriage license to a same-sex couple in Kentucky. Kim was arrested because she didn’t follow a law. Davis , as a religious supporter couldn’t signed the same-sex-marriage license. She was sent to jail for a few days and got a lot of popularity from her case. However , many are judging her because she’s has been married several times and that’s against some Religion’s. So she didn’t signed the license because her Religion doesn’t allow it but she can get married several times? I personally think that God wants everyone to be happy and not to judge. Therefore , Kim should respect everyone’s personal behavior. American citizens should be able to choose their Religious path or to even be Religious. I believe that the supreme court should respect everyone’s Personal Beliefs and us citizens respect their laws. Therefore , Separation of Church and State should stay the way it is because it benefits all of our citizens. Personal behavior is a big issue that has been formed by the separation of church and state. An issue that has its effects against our citizens. For example , same-sex-marriage , same-sex-marriage is personal behavior. If you want to behave that way and it’s how you feel you do it. The Congress sees no wrong with same-sex-marriage that is why they approve it..

I disagree with the government pushing Davis to follow the law even if she doesn’t want to. Although Davis continued to break the law, no one should be forced to do something they do not want to do. If Davis did not want to issue marriage license to a gay couple, then she shouldn’t be forced to do something she doesn’t religiously believe in. The government continued to push Davis to issue the license, but instead of arresting Davis, the officers should have asked other clerks to issue the marriage. The arrest of Davis started a spark in the media across the United Sates and many people were intrigued by the situation.…

Last month at Bremerton High school former marine, Joe Kennedy who is now an assistant Football Coach was asked to stop his “50-yard line” post game praying ritual. This ritual has never before been an issue, as he does it without bothering anyone or forcing anyone into joining prayer with him. It was not until a single parent complained that the school district noticed this and decided that even though his actions were “entirely well-intentioned” they had to take action against it. The grounds used for the complaint against Kennedy was that Bremerton is a public high school, therefore separation of church and state must be applied. With only one parent and the school district against his actions, Joe decided he was not going to back off of his “50-yard line” post game ritual, after all, he had plenty of people backing him up, including an atheist athlete and the athletes mother.…

If they were deeply rooted in their morals, simply hearing a prayer would not have much effect on what they believed. I believe that this court case placed a limitation on freedom of speech along with religious freedom. Both sides of the case were not viewed equally. Even though the new families were offended by the public prayer, in no way were their children threatened. They had the option not to participate, so the school board was respectful of the public.…

Jefferson first drafted the Virginia Statute for Religious Freedom in 1777 but the bill was not passed into law until January of 1786, seven years after being initially introduced to the Virginia General Assembly. Backed by dissenting sects, such as the Baptists, Methodists, Presbyterians, etc., Jefferson gave voice to the grievances of those paying taxes to fund the Church of England, to the many religions that demanded legal protection to practice their desired religion, and to the people petitioning for the separation of church and state.…

Religion has played integral role in shaping American society since its founding, almost two-hundred and fifty years ago. From the Declaration of Independence, which acknowledged “the Laws of Nature and Nature’s God,” to George Washington’s Thanksgiving Proclamation, which established “a day of public thanksgiving and prayer” in recognition of “the duty of all nations to acknowledge the providence of Almighty God… and humbly to implore His protection and favor,” many of America’s founding fathers freely recognized the authority and importance of religion. Yet, the First Amendment of the Constitution forbids Congress, and, by the Fourteenth Amendment, states, from making any “law respecting an establishment of religion.” The tension between this vague Constitutional limitation and the inseparability of religion from American society has generated countless court cases. Since Everson v. Board of Education (1947)—in which Justice Black famously asserted that the First Amendment has built a “wall of separation between church and state……

Washington, Madison, Hamilton, and Jefferson all disapproved of parties, but would be the ones who founded the first two great American political parties. In 1789 Jefferson even went as far to say, "If I could not go to heaven but with a party, I would not go there at all” (Flanders).
