One solution to overcrowding can be to change the mandatory minimum that offenders have to face. This is the biggest reason for overcrowding is because of drugs. Therefore, by eliminating the drugs one needs to eliminate the source. Incarcerate the head drug dealer the supplier of the drugs is the first step. By locking them up will decrease the amount of drugs being put out in society. As far as the people caught with drugs should not get jail time. They should get a hefty fine and after repeat offense the fine gets higher and a small jail term is sentenced. But by locking up an individual for marijuana is unjustified. However, these and many other drug offenders are making up the overcrowding population within our correction
