Globalization, that is, the socioeconomic and technological unification of the globe is promoting the world that is increasing in diversity and complexity. Local problems in the 21st century, due to the ever-growing interconnectedness and interdependency of the world, are no longer isolated ones, but they are global issues, therefore, they need global solutions. For instance, migration is a global issue but affects locally the United States. The U.S land inhabits a multitude of cultures and diversity that with the appropriate framework of understanding can reframe the issue of migration as an opportunity to realize that there is incredible value in the overlapping of cultures with whom citizens coexists to better understand themselves. Understanding local communities, and how the world works must be an absolute and essential outcome of the American education system. Consequently, the first priority of education should be to prepare students to acquire the capacity of thinking, acting and communicating in global terms. Interdisciplinary curriculums with an integrated learning approach, at its core, is infused with the necessary global competencies to prepare students with relevant knowledge, critical thinking capabilities, and cross-cultural communications tools to further understand, act, and solve 21st-century complex issues.
