The Unjustifiable Discrepancy in the Costs of Medical Services in the United States Let us imagine a situation of two people with similar backgrounds and similar financial status, one lives in Oklahoma and one lives in California. The person living in Oklahoma gets injured while transporting packages and the person living in California gets injured in the same way too. Both consults a healthcare professional regarding their injuries’ and it appears that both of them are required to undergo a knee surgery. However, since the cost of a knee surgery in California is much higher than Oklahoma, the person in Oklahoma is able to afford and undergo the knee surgery while the person in California is turned away.

One main cause that drastically influenced and led to this problem is the foundation of the healthcare system; the political and market power of healthcare personnel are strong. Hospitals have the power to increase and manipulate prices without getting penalized. In which, before the healthcare costs became public, hospitals and healthcare facilities had complete control over prices without the public’s awareness. However, nowadays, they have complete control over prices with public’s awareness. Another main factor investigated was the connection between quality and price. It was established that the substantial increase in prices in some hospitals is not related to the quality of the procedure or operation
