In John Steinbeck’s Of Mice and Men, George states, “I told his lady I’d take care of him” (Steinbeck 22). This shows George admits to promising to look after Lennie because Lennie is mentally slow, and unfortunately can’t make it in the real world without George’s guidance. Therefore, for George to betray both his promise and Lennie, where he could have helped Lennie escape. His decision was wrong, though killing is still justified.
For example, a time where killing should be justified is in the event of a victim having to use self-defense to either defend themselves from someone or defend another from someone. If someone were to threaten to harm another person, it’s only fair for a human to defend themselves against another threatening

Even though George knew he was better off without Lennie in his life he's even told Lennie “I could be living so good without you getting me in trouble and outta a job” (Steinbeck). George made the right decision by shooting Lennie Because. George did not want Lennie to suffer for what curly had in store for him so think of Lennie death as a mercy kill fast and less suffering also if George wouldn't have shot Lennie he could get tortured in many different ways. But most people say that George and Lennie should have run away instead of killing Lennie. My first reason that George should have taken Lennie life is that first of all. If Lennie had tried to escape with George both of the men would be considered wanted so it would be hard to have any type of job or place to live because their reputation would be murderers, But George thought that running away would be a bad idea so he did not want Lennie to deal with all this so he took his life.…

In this chapter two sub-themes, man’s inhumanity to man and greed, will be discussed as primary causes of conscience crisis that lead to the human predicament in general. The two themes are dealt widely by novelists from many perspectives. From those novelists are John Steinbeck and Cormac McCarthy who wrote about these themes, both of them in his own way, to convey and to touch people's real lives. “Steinbeck has read and studied deeply, dissecting and examining the various facets of human behavior, including what Wordsworth calls man’s inhumanity to man.” Henry Morgan wrote in his portrait of the single-minded, self-absorbed, “ Steinbeck has provided a portrait of a criminal mind—one moving from atrocity to atrocity, with little evidence of any regret or compassion.”…

I agree with Aristotle’s statement about how suffering and death in literature leave the audience to feel relieved rather than depressed. At the end of the story, the author created this built up tension with everyone getting ready for the manhunt and as George was talking to Lennie. At the end of the story, similar to when Candy waited for his dog to die until he could peacefully sleep, the tension was immediately released from the story when George did shot him. Feeling this release of tension once it happened made me feel relieved because neither Lennie nor George would have to suffer anymore. Lennie wouldn’t have to suffer of constant bullying by Curley and people questioning his mental state, and George would be free to have the true responsibilities…

I do not believe that people with mental retardation should be able to obide by the same rules as a normal person. People with mental retardation do not have the same ability to react as quick and accurate as a normal person does. A good example from the story is, Lennie could not remember much he was a very forgetful man. Lennie would not be able to survive on his own he needs someone like George to be with him to help him with things. Lennie did not think before he acted in the story.…
