Triveni Acharaya, a journalist for an indian newspaper, quit her job to fight against sex slavery. Triveni, and others standing against trafficking, harsh threats from people working for human sex trafficking, including brothel owners and pimps. Sex trafficking doesn’t just deny victims their rights but also the people fighting against this global issue. Triveni comments “Rescuing girls is a very risky job, ' says Triveni. 'Often it represents a loss of nearly 20 lakh rupees ($45,000) to the brothel keeper. And in India any Tom, Dick or Harry would kill for [that] sum of money.” It shouldn’t take large sums of money to end a problem that never should have started in the first place. It is easy to understand why it is so hard to put an end to this conflict; the sex trade is a multi-million dollar industry that and in this day and age money is power, pimps are able to bribe government officials, and this trade’s product is in high demand.
