Running head: OUR LIVES MATTER Caridad Pozo May 27, 2018 Professor Emily Smith-Miles Our Lives Matter Campaign Gun Violence and Mental Illness It is evident that there is a low connection between mental illness and gun control, and prevention measures should be put in place to reduce the increased mass shooting incidences. The efforts should work in conjunction with one another to provide a wide safety net.…
On 1st October at 10:38a.m, a horrific shooting unfolded that resulted in ten people getting killed. Including the recent gun shooting, there were several massive casualties by gun shootings such as the Columbine High School Massacre in 1999, the Virginia Tech massacre in 2007, and the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting in 2012. After the 2012 shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School, federal law enforcement agencies have taken a forward leaning approach to these types of incidents by pushing resources into the field as quickly as possible. However, why do such tragic accidents still happen? President Obama is currently trying to make some changes for gun regulation, but was unsuccessful in doing so.…
When I was 14 years old, and a freshman in high school, I took a stance. This stance was controversial at the time, but is something that I believe in ever more strongly today. This stance was on gun control reform. I wrote a bill and presented it to the Minnesota State Legislature. I wrote this bill shortly after the Sandy Hook Elementary School shootings.…
After doing quite a bit of research on this controversial topic I changed my mind. Specially in the moment when we hear of another mass shooting, no one is to blame but the people who pulled on the trigger. When you sit down and think about it leaving all of your feelings out of it and just looking at the facts you can clearly see what the problem is. There is a saying that goes, if guns are outlawed then only outlaws will have…
This event is something that will never be forgotten and will be forever changing and affecting the lives of many. It 's hard to believe something so horrific has to occur before society realizes there 's something wrong, that there 's a real problem and something needs to change. To this day there are still many who don 't understand why to two boys Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold did what they did. Going into their very own school and killing friends and teachers like its nothing, almost treating them like slaughter animals or killing like it 's a sport, that is something many cannot wrap their brains around. But recognizing the fact that these boys were suffering from a mental illness helps to bring closure, showing that the boys if had been in there right mind wouldn 't have ever killed anyone.…
Five years ago, Sandy Hook shook the nation. People watched the national coverage of the massacre that targeted elementary aged children, many as young as 5 years old. I thought then, that the American people would never let a child stare down the end of a barrel again. Sadly, I was gravely mistaken. Since Sandy Hook, five years ago, 7,000 more children have died from gun violence in the United States.…
Gun Control does not prevent Gun Violence Gun control is a very controversial topic especially in today's society; whether gun control is good or bad is a very talked about subject especially when it comes to the United States. This is a very touchy subject because guns are a part of a lot of people's daily lives. People that are anti gun control believe that no one should be able to put any restrictions on guns. They believe that people should be able to buy a firearm just like a pair of boots or a tool. They also believe that if you take firearms away from the law abiding citizens that just leaves firearms in the hands of people that don't abide by the law and leaves them defenseless.…
There are many significant issues in American politics today but none is more important to me than the debates regarding gun control. There is intense discussions from both those in favor of gun control and those opposed to it. I, admittedly, find myself sometimes sympathizing with those on both sides of the debate. Regardless which side you find yourself on there is no question that guns are extremely powerful and dangerous things which demand our attention and respect. Although I do not currently own a gun I am sure there will come a day in which I will want or need to.…
Guns are a way of life for some, but I personally believe that something should be done to help prevent the murders caused by people with guns. To help organize my thoughts I will discuss them by explaining why this concerns everyone,…
Gun violence is a social problem in the United States, in which a person use a gun to assault others. Before, I have never thought that this social issue would leave an impact on our society. However, as I recently became a United States citizen, I want to learn more about the country I live in and gun violence is one the social topics that has alway talk about in America. I know that America has the highest rate of gun violence incidents compare to other countries, and this fact makes me very curious to learn what makes America have the highest rate than others. I only thought that gun violence caused by the hatred of someone toward others, but this class gives me an insight that there are other factors can also lead to gun violence besides hatred.…
Jessica Gershon Professor Olalekan Afolabi Political Science 103 October 13, 2015 Do we have the right to bear arms? People died every day from gun violence. Ik- Whan G. Kwon and Daniel W. Baack say “In 2000, almost30,000 persons died from firearm injuries in the United States” (134). How could this large amount of number be reached? In the United Stated, there are lots of gun shooting tragedies.…
Thereupon, the raw numbers of gun violence paint a chilling picture of America 's intimate relationship with firearms (Sanchez, 2015). Comparatively, bystanders proceed to…

Around the world, the minimal amount of security, as well as the inducement of violence with guns, have caused constant problems. Frequently, in most institutions, there seems to be a recurring theme of an insignificant amount of security. This happens to be an immeasurable problem, due to representing a factor that is responsible for the lives of multiple individuals. Of course, tragedies can’t be prevented, however any measure that can be taken to ensure the lives of individuals, shall be implemented. For example, Umpqua Community College in Oregon, had witness the evils of an absence of security, through having suffering a horrendous massacre.…
