It is much more about general control by the ruled class over the people they rule. This can lead to an all-out war, with the people fighting their oppressors to the death in defense of their rights and freedom. This has happened in the past, and was a main precursor to American Independence. This is clear when researching the events that led up to the Revolutionary War between the Colonials and the British Army in April, 1775. Aside from heavy taxation and warrantless searches and seizures, various gun control measures were made by the British. They began attempts of firearms and gun powder confiscations from colonists in 1774-1775, and the British Army was ordered to carry out the confiscations with force. This was the key tipping point which led to the first shots being fired in the Revolutionary War (Kopel, 2012, p. 285). We later wrote the Declaration of Independence in 1776 and signed the United States Constitution in 1787 after we won the war ("Timeline of the American Revolutionary War," n.d.). Stemming from these events, the second amendment was ratified in 1791, expressing the God given right of American citizens to keep and bear arms to protect against a tyrannical government. Crime will increase while both our freedom and security will decrease. Firearms are as vital in preventing and deterring crime as they are in fighting it. Dictators such as Hitler used gun control to conquer nations. If the people had the right to defend themselves, Hitler most likely would have been unsuccessful. America is close to the danger of the same types of events happing today. For the sake of the nation and its people, the United Sates of America must never let that
