As we turn on the news or look in the newspapers, the same few topics are always at the forefront attempting to grab our attention. One of these attention-grabbing topics is gun control. Unfortunately, in todays society, violence and mass murder run rampant in our streets, our businesses, religious institutions, and our schools. When a shooting occurs, political influencers and the media are quick to accuse and throw shade at the second amendment which allows people to bear arms. As one of the most controversial topics in the media, the country is split. People take sides, choosing whether to be on the pro-second amendment side or the anti-gun side. The Liberals or anti-gun side proposed the idea of stricter gun policies. They believe that guns kill people as opposed to the Conservatives or the pro-second amendment side that strongly believe that people that kill people. In addition to harsher gun rules, the anti-gun side believes in gun-free zones. These zones are specified areas where guns are legally not permitted. According to Richard Mack, a former Arizona sheriff, gun-free zone is another name for “helpless-victim zone” (Gun-Free Zones Kill People). The anti-gun movement argues that citizens should rely on police instead of carrying a weapon for personal safety. On the flip side, the pro-second amendment people mention that police response time is about a few minutes. It only takes a few seconds for a deranged person to shoot someone.
