The news makes one man’s corruption look like the whole police forces way of working. This has lead the topic of criminal justice to be one of the highest concerns in the voter’s eyes. Citizens are only seeing bad actions done by police on the news which leads many candidates interested into the proposal of body cameras. This proposal can be determined “right or good” by the way of Deontology which focus on the rights, duties, rules, and consequences of a decision. Officers have the right to protect themselves just like citizen has the same right, even criminals, have the right not to be harmed by an officer as long as they are not endangering the office or others. A police officers duties are to come home alive, uphold the law, and protect each citizen’s rights while it is the citizen’s duty to respect the officer and keep to the law. However, there are many citizens who try and assault or kill an officer leaving them no other choice, but to protect themselves and shoot at the citizen. This right to protect their life is what they are given for risking it every day to protect others. Yet, some officers have broken their rules and duties by acting against a citizens rights and using corruption in the form of brutality. However, not all the proposals that were mentioned where worthy enough to be determined “right” or “good” according to Consequentialism and Deontology. Some had good consequences and followed the rights and duties of the people. Others had bad long term or short term consequences. It’s important that we determine what the right thing is for the people of America. Not just how it affects us individually, but how it will impact our society. According to Consequentialism only the consequences of the proposal can help us determine what is good for the people while Deontology can better be used when it comes to the rights of the people and determining what is good or right like we seen in the criminal justice
