Is following the crowd thinking that there is safety in numbers the right thing to do? Many times in society people are seen purchasing and wearing clothing of elite brands, not because they enjoy the appearance but rather since the brand has been deemed as elusive and a status symbol. Aspects of society have been deemed with a dogma of either being good or bad by the public and people do not see below the surface to see decide if whether following the crowd is the best choice. This action can be seen with the usage of cell phones. These devices have transcended into popular culture and have come to be thought of as a necessity. However, people do not necessarily understand why they must need and want a cellphone. These devices are perceived …show more content…
Tom DiAngelis, president of the American Physical Therapy Association asserts that, “forward head posture can lead to muscle strain, disc herniation and pinched nerves. Over time, it can even flatten or reverse the natural curve of your neck"(CNN). These devices may not appear as harmful or dangerous superficially, but their side effects are significant. Prolonged usage of cell phones leads to sitting in an arched body posture which can lead to chronic pain and back issues later in life (Medical Daily). When purchasing a phone, an ordinary person does not look or think about the dangers that it may pose, such as how it may affect their future and what implications may arise from prolonged use. Thoughts of how their muscles will be strained and damage to their neck are thoughts which do not register even once while purchasing a device. Rather people purchase phones with the ideology that they would allow them to fit in with their friends and remain in line with the common trends.
