Overall, Obama wanted to decrease the standards of repealing children crossing the border because of the cost it was taking to supply them with their needs. The idea that decreasing the number of children allowed into the country because of monetary reasons seems quite unjust. Although a President is supposed to be concerned with the budget of America, he should not be risking the lives of innocent children for the sake of it. In support of the President, Gov. Rick Perry told reporters that it would be more humane to send the children who are coming over to the United States immediately back to their home countries because it would deter others who are thinking of coming over from trying to. What he didn’t realize is that although it may deter some, many people who come over are doing it in reaction “to be free from the murderous conditions from which they flee” and they feel they have no choice but to come(Becerra). In some situations, the children are coming across the border and going directly to the arms of border patrol because they know that if they a processed and detained, they could either be permanently saved from the terrible situation they were previously in, or at least they would have a small lapse from the situation. Additionally, Filemon Vela, who deals with border issues daily, said that while this decision could have some positive effects, it would also decrease the time courts would have to process the children and most likely wouldn’t have time to correctly determine if these children are in real, substantial danger(Mascaro).
