Wilfred Owen's Argument Against Abortion

Improved Essays
The view of many is that there are only two sides to the issue of abortion. One is either a supporter of abortion or they are against it; there is no middle ground. There is a clear and distinct rift between the two groups of people. However, I believe that there can be a middle ground. People should recognize this middle and come together to discuss their thoughts and opinions in a safe and secure manner. There are activists who protest outside of abortion clinics and many clinics have even been vandalized or burned to the ground because of these protestors. These actions seem very drastic in my point of mind. I respect these people’s desire to protect what they believe in and to show the world that they are not going to lay down and let …show more content…
Owen makes a point in his article to point out that a woman may justify her decision to abort her child based on the notion that during the time of the abortion the baby was, in fact, not considered a living fetus. Some women rationalize the idea by saying that the thing growing inside them is just a bundle of cells and is not a living, breathing child. This notion, however plausible, is one that I do not recognize. In my opinion, once the sperm cell meets the egg there is life. I cannot begin to fathom how some do not see the life growing inside of them. Although I find this assumption incorrect, I also consider that every person has the right to their own opinions. Just like any other medical procedure, abortions are readily available to those who seek them out. Many states are working to prevent this type of service from becoming available to its residents, as discussed in the article “The Public Health Threat of Anti-abortion Legislation”. Once again, we circle around to the matter that every person has a right to …show more content…
I believe that every person has the right to choose what to do with their life and their bodies. I cannot say in whole that I believe that abortion is the right route to go. When becoming pregnant with a child that you do not want to love and cherish, you must look at all of the options that are available to you. Adoption is one of the options that could influence someone into changing their minds when it comes to abortion. There are many women and couples who are not capable of having children, and adoption is a way of making more than one life better. By choosing to carry the baby to term, a woman can put it up for adoption and save the life of her child as well as bless the life of someone else. Abortion is not the only option, and I believe that when a woman goes in to discuss her options once she discovers that she is pregnant, all of her options should be presented to her. However beneficial adoption is, there are still some woman that believe that abortion is the only option that will work for them. It is imperative that we learn to accept this opinion. Even though abortion is something I would never consider, I respect the woman’s right to choose. I wouldn’t want someone to approach me and tell me what I should believe in and what I should do with my life. Each woman who enters into an abortion clinic has a story, and it is up to her if she wants to share that story. Women who have

Did you know from Roe v. Wade in 1973 to 2011, about 53 million legal abortions were performed in the United States - an average of 1.4 million a year? The debate over whether or not abortion should be legal continues to divide this country today long after the Supreme Court’s 7-2 ruling on Roe v. Wade declaring the procedure a fundamental right on January 22, 1973. There are three different views on the issue of abortion: the extreme conservative view, the extreme liberal view and moderate view, which lie in between both extremes. The extreme conservative view, identifying themselves as anti-abortionists (also known as being pro-life), contend that personhood begins at conception, therefore abortion by their definition is homicide. The second view on the issue of abortion is the extreme liberal view.…

“In the battle of rights, whose life is protected, whose rights are suspended?” (Kass). As a society we go on and on about politics and what rights we, as people, deserve. This is not just an issue of politics, but an issue of morality. When the subject comes to abortion, the immediate response is to change the subject, or to say that you don’t really have an opinion on the issue.…

In our day and age, you will undoubtedly hear the pro-abortionists say these exact statements “it’s between the woman and her doctor” or “a woman has the right to choose.” The world today is in great peril; can people recognize right from wrong? Pro-abortionists say it is wrong to make abortion illegal in the United States because, you deny women’s right to health care. Therefore, the pro-abortionists in other words believe that, to deny a woman her right to choose an abortion, is an attack on her rights.…

More often than not, abortion is the result of pregnancy due to rape, or the inability to support a child for any variety of reasons. Although many see it as the termination of a life, abortion needs to be an option to save the lives of women who are not able to support a child. While opposing viewers might say that abortion terminates a potential life and is dangerous, it is actually saving the life of a woman who wouldn’t be able…

Abortion is a highly talked about concept. There are many people that believe that it should be supported and that women have a right over their own body. However, others in society believe that it is an unholy and unjust act to partake in. There is rarely anyone that is in the middle or on the fence about this argument. Many people have very concrete and distinct opinions based on abortion.…

These self proclaimed “pro-lifers” often argue that putting the child up for adoption is a better alternative to abortion. They say, “it is reasonable for society to expect an adult to live temporarily with an inconvenience if the only alternative is killing a child.” (Thompson, 6). By this they mean because of the fact that pregnancy is not a permanent condition, the women should be expected to just endure it until the baby can be born and put into foster care. However, foster care has several issues and is not automatically a better option for the child.…

Planned Parenthood Should be Federally Funded There are many people who believe abortion is acceptable and that it is a womans right to an abortion. Additionally, many people think that the government should not have a say in whether a woman can receive an abortion or not. A woman’s body should be the responsiblity of that woman, not the government. If that woman makes a mistake, they have Planned Parenhood to look to.…

There has been a long existing debate of “Pro-Life” versus “Pro-Choice” about whether or not women should be able to abort a child. Many people being Pro-Choice will use the argument that the fetus isn 't a living person, and rather that it is the woman’s body; therefore the woman’s choice. There are other options women have such as adoption: waiting until the baby is born and providing the child a well-suited family to properly care for them. I believe any way you can avoid aborting a child is better than abortion because you give the child a chance for life. An unborn child in the womb contains all of the characteristics for it to be considered living, proving abortion is morally and scientifically wrong.…

A woman will have to decide for herself, based on what she believes in, how her life will be with those beliefs, and who she will integrate with her decision. Abortion is not a choice for everyone, however for Pro-choice supporters is the right decision whether it is for convenience or to a woman who was a rape victim and wanted to end the pregnancy. It seems like an easy fix to a life problem that you can 't solve by yourself. If you start thinking about what will happen if abortions were made illegal, consequently a number of women will become injured or sterile as a result of the procedure. People will think that giving the child up for adoption could be the solution but in most cases, this can be very emotionally damaging for the child 's mother.…

Teenagers who become mothers have grim prospects for the future. “They are much more likely to leave of school; receive inadequate prenatal care; rely on public assistance to raise a child; develop health problems; or end up divorced” (Lowen). On average about 18% of teenagers result to abortions and in 2010 adolescents under fifteen counted as 0.05% of all abortions, but had the highest ratio 851 abortions: 1,000 live births (U.S. Abortion Statistics). With this being said, protesters against abortion should not be fighting for abortion laws, but to push for better contraceptives before it leads to a woman having to choose…
