In American society today there is increasing interest and attention given to obesity and how it is affecting the lives of people, not only now, but for generations to come. Many critics, political leaders, and communities argue their particular perspectives on this issue and solutions to help alleviate their concerns. The purpose of this paper is to analyze the different arguments regarding education and its role in overcoming obesity in America. More specifically, this paper focuses on crucial obesity issues. First, whether or not the government should lead the charge in educating people through the use of programs and initiatives, or if that is up to individuals to take personal responsibility for educating themselves. Also, whether education on obesity issues actually affects how an individual will live their personal life. By comparing some of the main viewpoints on these key topics, readers will see that the solution to obesity in America largely rests on the individual. Government interaction and programs will help support families as they move towards a healthier lifestyle.
