Betrayal is a common theme across fiction literature and media. Showing moments of a person turning his back on his boss, leader, and superior power to become independent. Or gather their own people and fight back, become rival of their former boss. Betrayal would be like, putting your loyalty in someone, and them turning their back on yours. It is something that can happen to anybody in the real life and Paradise Lost by John Milton, Lord of the Flies by William Golding, and the hit TV series El Chema by Rafael Amaya all have the realistic and eye opening portrayals of betrayal and the impact it can have on the lives of the characters involved.…

In William Golding’s Lord of the Flies, conflict - both internal and external - portrays a major development in the theme and plot of the young boys in this novel. On an island composed of only pre-adolescent boys, it is unquestionable that there would be conflict amongst them. Golding blatantly shows the reader the external conflicts that occur between one another, including both physical and verbal altercations. The author also cryptically gives the reader a display of the conflict the boys struggle with within themselves and their own thoughts. Despite the many instances of external conflict, the subtle internal conflicts are much more critical to the plot and overall theme of Lord of the Flies.…

However, in Coral Island the boys seem to uphold their civilised lifestyles, creating shelter and gathering food. The main conflicts arise when they find evils such as English Pirates or Native tribes. Golding's story portrays the struggles of the boys in a much different, more modern manner. Unlike Coral Island, which is seen by many as to be a very outdated and imperialist way of thinking. Golding’s political and social ideologies which are portrayed in the Lord of the Flies can likely be attributed the ever so prominent WW2 which he, of course, participated in.…

For example, since slavery’s foundation required the chattel system , a bondage system permitting slaves to be bought and sold like property, each slave was “a person with a price” in a society where people were deemed to be priceless. All slaves became devalued goods when they were assigned a price on the market for slaveholders to buy or trade, exposing slavery as the exchange of immaterial people who were treated unjustly. A slave, Henry Bibb, acknowledged how he was a replaceable commodity when he recalled the prices his countless owners sold him for when he was no longer desirable. Additionally, slaveholders collected slaves, who were viewed as valuable possessions, to display their wealth. Frederick Law Olmsted opposed slavery because cotton profits did not improve infrastructure, like in the North, but accumulated in the bodies of the slaves who “represented a thousand dollars”.…
