With the recent rise of ISIS, the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria, many people are in outrage at the cruel and tortuous acts they are performing. ISIS has made a personal claim as an Islamic State and claim they do everything in honor of Allah, or “one God”. They make claims that they are following the laws of Islam and the words of their prophet, Mohammed. With the heinous acts they have performed against humanity, people are now associating all Islam with the terrorist organization. News Medias are in outrage, crying out for justice to be done. People are asking for the President, Barack Obama, to send out American troops to the Middle East to eradicate the Islamic terrorist group, ISIS. But do the actions of ISIS truly represent the

It is clear that ISIS is violating many laws of Islam and that Islamic beliefs. It is also clear that they will continue to use Islam an excuse to commit heinous acts to justify their actions. But why use religion to glorify their cause? Are they the only ones that utilize a religion to justify what they do each and every day in their organization?
History shows many religious groups using the religion as a way to validate the actions they engage in. President Barack Obama has receive backlash for comparing ISIS to Christianity for the Crusades and slavery; however, these are only two instances that religion is taken to an extreme form. A more substantial example of extreme religious terrorism is the Spanish Inquisition, using Christianity to rationalize the terror that reigned down. However, the Spanish Inquisition only represents a small percentage of Christians and should warrant people to equate all Christians with tortuous acts. This also should be the case with ISIS. The actions of a few should not dictate and define the many. ISIS may utilize Islam to vindicate their actions, but ISIS is not all Muslim people.
