Thousands of student athletes graduated without taking actual classes and therefore did not even receive an education (CNN). Many gained nothing by going to college this way. Some were drafted but many were not and since they did not take classes they came away with nothing after 4 years of college. Many of the student athletes that were not drafted fell on hard times because they threw away their education and relied so heavily on making it to the pros (CNN). These student-athletes got nothing out of their time at college. They put so much into sports and when they were not drafted they had no other career choices to fall back upon. Many people believe that athletes should be paid because they do not gain anything from the scholarships they are granted because they do not focus on education during their time at these colleges and universities (CNN). Colleges are supposed to be paying students with scholarships to go to school for free or for less than full tuition but when they don’t take actual classes they are not getting anything out of these scholarships. College athletes should not be paid but they should get an education for free to play for the college. Many professors and staff at the university are blaming media claiming that it has brought unnecessary attention to the issue. Others believe that the university needs to move on and forget about these scandals, to look towards the future of the university instead of worrying about past issues. Looking at what’s best for the university it is essential that the issue be resolved as soon as possible and then the university should move on and look towards the future. Mistakes were made but they should be lessons to others that education should come first and should take center stage over sports. The National Collegiate Athletic Association has made claims that it will further look into the issue but it is still unclear of how they will go about these investigations (Newsobserver). The NCAA is currently looking into around 20 cases of academic fraud. There have been many more cases of academic fraud but the NCAA is only looking in to those at the University of North Carolina and only at students currently enrolled and playing for the university. Another issue that is being looked into is in the basketball program at the university (Newsobserver). Reports state that the men’s basketball tutor for athletes on the team is unqualified for the job. The tutor herself is believed to have not had a college degree of her
