Pros And Cons Of Transgenders

You may think that coming out as ‘transgender’ is a new thing due to it recently making headlines with people like Caitlyn Jenner or Laverne Cox. But that is not the case; there have been transgender reports from ancient Egypt and Rome, they just never had the medical resources to have the sex reassignment surgery and there were less people who came out as transgender. There was also not as much information available.

Transgender means is that some people may feel they have not been born as they should have. They believe that they should have been a different gender. And why should we, as a society, stop people from believing that? Statistics show how poor the mental health of transgendered people is. For example they are 9 times more likely to commit suicide than the average person as they can be confused about what they feel and they may feel suicide is the only way. Psychologists have stated that transgenders are not neurotic or demented, they just simply don’t feel their gender reflects who they are on the inside as they are not happy in the gender they are in. Society should be more accepting so more transgenders can be themselves without feeling as if going outside can put their life at risk or feeling scared that something bad is going to happen to them. Transgenders go through so much even by just feeling they were a mix-up at birth. People who are transgender have to go through many feelings and situations such as going through therapy sessions, hormone replacement therapy, being scrutinized by people they come across and dealing with their families. They also may have had no support through all of this. They may suffer from depression and anxiety so bad that they have considered suicide. Many transgenders have had their human rights abused. If society could be more accepting of transgendered people there would be less deaths and human rights being
