When a childs involved with music they have a benefit of getting higher test scores. In fact, there is a 20 percent higher math scores on standardized test according to Christopher Johnson a professor of music education at University of Kansas (Brown). Not only that, but in elementary schools with superior music education programs have scored 22 percent higher in english (Brown). Music creates a child's brain to work harder. In fact, being involved in music gives a younger student a larger growth of neural activity unlike non musician (Brown). No matter what age a person is their brain is working harder when they play their instruments. Music improves sound discrimination. Sound discrimination is when one has the ability to tell the difference between a sound, in words or in a rhythm. In other words, it’s linking a song to one’s brain (Musedadium). Music also helps with the language development. “The development of language over time tends to enhances parts of the brain that helps process the music.” (Brown). Music also benefits for students when they are young by learning how to decode sounds and words ( Brown). Through music, people are able to remember easier because music is a lot of repetition by learning the notes and how to play on an instrument. Theater benefits students because anyone is able to go see a good production. Not only seeing a good production, but anyone at any age is able to be involved in a theatre production. Theatre is a strong help when it comes to reading comprehension. The performance of Shakespeare texts helps improve student’s understanding of other complex texts, including science and math material (AATE). When a person is a part of a show it requires a lot of reflections and discussions on how to improve the way one is portraying the character. As well as knowing how to act even better as the character and to understand what the characters are trying to tell the audience by understanding the text in a script. Performing can lower fear and lower anxiety, because one is performing in front of a crowd (Musedadmim). In a musical students learn how to show off their ability of being verbal, physical and emotional when they act with the actors, directors and audience members (Swapp). Trust is a vast segment of theater, which will help a school in order for an individual to believe in their own self. The social interactions and risk taking in drama develops trust in oneself and others in the process (Bason). Performing is deeper than just an entertaining
