How To Write A Sociological Reflection Paper

I learned a lot this semester, I never really thought like a sociologist and it was very interesting to learn this perspective. It was interesting going to Thanksgiving and watching everyone’s body language and how they spoke to one another. Seeing family members that I know don’t really get along speak to each other was very funny to me. They all were demeaning to each other and it kind of made me angry too, we are family from the same family tree we should be getting along! I was really intrigued by the social class system. I didn’t think about how much wealth that the upper-upper class had and how little the poor working class has. I also found it interesting how hard it is to move from a lower class to upper class, and how easy it is to go from upper to lower …show more content…
Also, I liked learning about the investigation process of sociology. I find it interesting that gender research has different terms to describe different biases that can happen within the researches, such as androcentricity, gynocentricity etc. It is cool that sociologists have their own terminology; to describe what biases and personal viewpoints can be thrown into their own personal research. I know that all fields of research have different terms, but it was interesting learning the various terms for sociology. I will tell other people that we learned about the basics of sociology like how to change the way you think to become a more critical thinker. Also, I will tell them that we learned extensively about culture and how important culture is to people and how interesting it was to learn about how culture changes so often. I will remember the fun scratch off lottery ticket quiz that we took as well as all the other quizzes. I really enjoyed the practice quizzes you posted on blackboard they helped a lot as well. I also will always remember the Tammy’s Story documentary that we

While there have been many books that have made a lasting impression on me, In Search of Respect: Selling Crack in El Barrio, an ethnography read in my Cultural Anthropology class, fall of my sophomore year is still one that stands out to me. This was the first ethnography that I have ever read, causing me to be fascinated with the study being done. Reading about Philippe Bourgois’s experience of living in Harlem during the crack epidemic, made me realize the extreme negative effects that unemployment and poverty can have on a population. It was eye opening to learn why these individuals, who are looked at as cold hard criminals, were pushed to do the things that they did to support themselves and their families. This ethnography touched upon…

Early upon entering the College of Social Work I became interested in the homeless population. In my junior year, I took the time to volunteer with the Renaissance Community Center, an organization that provides various services to Homeless individuals in Tallahassee. Volunteering here taught me about people and the effects of interpersonal communication, how the availability of services can aid people during personal crisis, and the limitations of resources and access on a vulnerable population such as the homeless. This experience is valuable to me as it increased my interest in the population and my awareness of how it intersects with values and the purpose of social work.…

The readings that were assigned throughout the semester covered a multitude of topics. The topics covered included education and school, gender, media, and globalization. The readings that I most enjoyed were the first ones assigned which included “A Question of Honor”, “Plagiarism Lines Blur for Students in Digital Age”, and “The Myth of Inferiority”. The reason why these readings interested me the most was because they fell under my favorite topic of education. Education is one of the subjects I find the most interesting.…

Over this semester I think one of the most eye opening things we talked about was how women were uneducated but were the primary educators. This is crazy for me to think about, because they were expected to teach the children about everything that was going on. This also shows how much education has evolved since then. I think that it is our responsibility as teachers to the students to teach them about the issues, this can mean using other sources besides the textbook to teach the students. There are certain chunks of our history as a country that is left out in many textbooks, they try to make it seem like they are less terrible that how they really are.…

Nick Anderson strongly uses symbolism to strengthen this argument by literally depicting the “upper class” character as being above the other character. This causes one character to be both literally and figuratively looking down onto the other character depicted. The CEO figure on the pile of money is included in the 1%, those who own most of the nations wealth. These wealthy figures continue to get wealthier while the middle and lower classes either stay stagnant or get poorer. Anderson depicts that stark contrast in his…

Sociological mindfulness is the idea that an individual is “tuned-in to how the social world works” through the understanding and critical analysis of social development and social consequences (Schwalbe 5). This idea goes against social understanding of wester society, and specifically American individualism. I think this course really helped foster by ability to tune into the social world, specifically how the social world helps socialize each individual through institutional factors. For example, how society and institutions have constructed every individuals social reality and consciousness, making no one immune to social barriers. This course has helped me in my ability to think critically about the sociological impacts on society as…

Coming into this course, I really didn 't know what to expect. Sociology is something that I’ve always known about, but never really paid much attention to. As many people other people think, I saw sociology and psychology as the same thing. I didn 't take the time to read or understand what the difference was and even if there really was a difference. I quickly learned that there was.…

I would say that I learned the most about what it really means to have time management after this semester. Entering my first semester of college I had blind faith in the University, and myself because I believe everything would just work out and I would pass because it was meant to be. However, fate and hope are no the things to help you life as a new college student. The drive to wake up, attend class, finish homework, and accept the new responsibility that had been placed in my novice hands diminished greatly as the non-academic temptations became to creep in my head. I must be honest with you and let you know that I did cave and willingly participate in the sweet release of social experiences.…
