Following the industrial revolution mass production was on the rise, Henry Ford improved this idea in his production of automobiles. Henry Ford’s assembly line not only encouraged mass production at a faster pace, but the affordable cost allowed access to the common American family. The automobile created a new market in the economy allowing America to soar to new heights. Stimulating the economy to grow, the flourishing of automobiles increased production in steel, rubber, glass, tools, and oil. More jobs were being created and America started to prosper even more than in the industrial revolution. The economy was at an all time high once the automobile hit the streets. The development of the automobile also led to a high increase in construction. Now that almost every American household had a car, establishments of garages was in demand. The government became a part of supporting the rise of automobiles, local and state government began funding highway designs and construction of roadways. Soon the federal government caught on and new legislation was passed, “the federal government became involved with the Federal Highway Act of 1921.” The Federal Highway Act of 1921 was just the first of many legislations …show more content…
Land was also substantially cheaper and much more plentiful the farther away from the city you got, which in turn, would allow for big businesses to put a foothold in American society. Simply due to the invention of the automobile growth doubled in the suburbs and allowed for people to commute to work, thus allowing for greater economic growth. Furthermore, the automobile greatly stimulated and even started the creation of many new jobs. This phenomenon helped change American society towards a more prosperous
