Everyone’s definition of an American icon is different. An American con is someone who changed America for the better. An American icon is someone who influences people to be the best version of us. They represent what America truly is, which is strong, hardworking, and independent. One person who encompasses all of these traits is a man named Thomas Alva Edison. Thomas Edison is an engineer and inventor best known for his work involving the light bulb. Edison was born in Milan, Ohio, on February 11, 1931. He was the last child born to Samuel Ogden Edison and Nancy Matthews Elliot. He was born the youngest of seven. He and his family grew up in Port Huron, Michigan. Edison preferred to work in his lab than go to sleep in his bed. He had a sleep schedule of four to five hours each night. Hard work and little sleep: that is the basis on which America was built. Henry Ford is best known for the creation of the first car and assembly line. The car changed the means of transportation forever in history. The assembly line was also revolutionary because of how it provided hundreds and thousands of inexperienced workers with jobs.
