In 1984 they don't want you to feel love with a significant other to avoid having people find out the true definition of what love really is. In this world they want to prevent us from doing things by scaring us immigrants to torture us by separating us from our families or by saying all Mexicans are rapists and job takers. In the book they get put in room 101 and they get tortured with what frightens them most. A recent event that occurred was when Trump wasn't allowing people from multiple countries, when many of them are just humans trying to find a better life opportunity and that was torture to them because not everyone is bad.
