The intervention strategies the clinician will use to target Amanda’s specific language weakness are narratives and discourse. The client’s teacher main concerns were the areas of expressive language skills as well as limited vocabulary. The clinician will target narratives and discourse to increase the client’s expressive language skills.
Research by McCabe and Bliss, supports that children should have the ability to provide with a minimum of two events in a narrative. The clinician can guide the client to create a narrative by using pictures of different situations that are age appropriate. This will allow the clinician to have a starting point on where she can begin targeting narrative goals. If the client is able to state two events then the clinician can expand the client’s narrative skills but if the client is not able to verbally state a narrative then the

This will allow the client to start building on her language abilities to form narratives without struggling to communicate.
INTERVENTION:
The clinician will target receptive language goals by having a list of vocabulary words to teach the client. The clinician will explain each definition as simple as possible in order for the client to understand. The clinician will read “The Giving Tree” in order to identify the main idea of the story. This will help the client understand that topic maintenance should be maintained when a story is taking place.
The clinician will target expressive language goals to teach the client how to formulate grammatically correct sentences to include the subject, verb, and direct object by explaining to her what each term means. The clinician will also provide examples for the client in order for the client to gain a clear understanding of how to produce grammatically correct sentences.
