I know he loves me because I can feel it everyday, and not just because he tells me. Somedays he will send me “you song for today”, or send me pressed flowers in the mail. He knows I love him, because I surprising mail him his favorite cereal, since he is unable to find it where he lives. The need we have for physical contact is met every two or three months, which I will admit isn’t often enough. Our relationship is a reward in itself. Just knowing that I have someone who loves me and cares for me is an incredible feeling. I miss him constantly, but at least I have someone to miss. If I were the one about to do something, he doesn’t have to say anything for me to change my mind. Just the look on his face is enough for me to know it would bother him on some level. If the situation is reversed, which this has only happened once, it feels like nothing I say matters. Wilmot (DeVito, 2003) defines interpersonal conflict as a “disagreement between two connected persons” (p.268). By that definition, one could say there is a lot of conflict in our relationship, because we disagree quite a bit. Those disagreements however, are not over important topics, therefore they do not cause problems. We talk them out and usually find common ground.
