An Example Of Basic Interpersonal Communication Skills (BICS?

Throughout the class time, I noticed several Basic Interpersonal Communication Skills (BICS.) The first instance that I noted was when the teacher Mrs, Bayers called the messenger to run something to the office. I believe she whispered to the girl, “Take this to the office.” This is an example of BICS because it was a face-to-face conversation. This conversation was a basic communication that occurred interpersonally, and it was cognitively undemanding. The teacher reprimanded those few students a few times, but they went back to whispering almost every time. The interpreter would have to make a note of the whispering students in the back of the group because the teacher called the students out. If the interpreter decided they were whispering too quietly then the Deaf consumer would possibly ask what was going

It is a person-to-person contact, it includes everyday exchange that may be formal or informal and can take place anywhere by means of words, sounds, facial expression, gestures and postures. Two significant learning points for me during this course was in module 3, using the I-language instead of you-language which gives power over our thoughts, feelings and emotions to others. Verbal communication consists of what a teacher or student says out loud. This includes a teacher directly interacting with her students by verbalizing information through teacher-student communication. When the class is being loud or disruptive, the teacher can talk to the class as a whole to be quiet or redirect their attention.
