A children’s book defines the journey of my continual life. Inspiration comes to people in many forms and ways yet this one book read to me by my first-grade teacher, Mrs. Jenks, stuck with me till this day. “I do not belong here” was the first thought that came into my head on the bright, sunny day of September 7th, 2005.…

Being identified as bilingual is a trait that people would not be astonished by, considering the fact that at least 20 percent of the American population speaks more than one language. Even with this being the case, I am proud of being bilingual. Since learning my own native language was a struggle for me, it was rewarding to have learned a completely foreign one. It was not till I turned six when I finally learned how to pronounce my C’s and R’s in Spanish. This took a long year of speech therapy, which was enjoyable, albeit strange.…

My educational story started a long time ago in Bogota, Colombia. Being one of four children in a low socioeconomic class made it difficult for my parents to afford a college education for all of us. My older brothers were in the engineering school, which was expensive, stretching my parent's pockets and, reducing the possibility for them to pay for my college tuition. When I was finishing high school, I looked at my different possibilities to pay for my education without having to resort on my parent’s money. I found out about a grant that a prestigious university offered to high school students with the best high school grades, and the best scores in the ICFES test (similar to the ACT test in North America).…

One has to think critically what are his/her own strengths and weaknesses in order to be able to improve and reach his/her objectives. The aim of this review is precisely this – I will expose the key factors of my English learning, then I will indicate the ways that I find most and less useful to learn a language, next I will list my strong points and my weak spots and finally I will give some ideas to ameliorate my command of English as a foreign language. I started studying English when I was six years old, which means I have been learning it for thirteen years. Until 2015, I studied it in two different environments: the school and a private academy.…
