The Internship is about two watch salesmen, Billy McMahon (Vince Vaughn) and Nick Campbell (Owen Wilson). The two are cut off from their jobs after their industry realizes that technology (the digital world) is causing a decline in their business therefore leading to their employers going out of business. Billy then takes the initiative to enroll both him and Nick to an internship at Google, their entrance into this internship programme is a battle. However, they qualify and end up participating in the programme with a diverse group of highly intellectual college students. Billy and Nick’s previous job sends them out on a sales meeting without having let them know prior to the meeting that they have been cut off from the business, this is an autocratic style of management as he did not inform them of the retrenchment, instead he took the decision himself and let them know about it later. A democratic leadership style is shown when the Google team (Lyle, Dana and Mr Chetty) hires the interns in scene 5, Lyle’s opinion in regards to hiring Billy and Nick is voiced and heard by the rest of the members and then a decision was reached having taken his opinion into consideration. During the first challenge, in scene 12, a laissez-faire management style is depicted as the team manager Lyle allowed the team members to embark on their own tasks without his involvement. During the second challenge (scene 16) transformational management style is present as Billy and Nick help the team members reach their potential while still reaching their aim as a team by embarking on a night out where the team lets loose as a way to find motivation and through this come up with the winning application (Levy, …show more content…
However, the conflict was resolved through avoidance during the match after they realized they were losing so that they could have a much better attempt at winning, it was also resolved through clearer communication skills when Bill was communicating their goal through a story narrative during halftime during the match in this scene. During the second challenge (scene 16) he team experiences functional conflict as they argue about new app ideas, it stimulated creativity and led to the application they had designed being the most downloaded. Inner conflict is depicted from the beginning of the intern programme to the last challenge in Billy and Nick’s characters. They constantly think they are inferior to all the other interns, however, they deal with their internal conflict by using their emotional intelligence to deal with it and rather being productive with the team and learning new skills (Levy,
