Summery of the movie

The Internship directed by "insert name" follows the lives of two close friends Billy, who is played by Vince Vaughn, and Nick, played by Owen Wilson. However a team environment also gives space for conflict to occur. The movie show that conflict cannot always be worked out in the same way and the disadvantages of a group. But it also shows that creative thinking takes place better in a group and the achievements one can accomplish after conflict management.

Management and leadership

Management is the act of planning, organizing, controlling, motivating and leading a specific group of people. Leadership on the other hand has a specific goal to achieve and is someone's with a specific personality which people choose to follow, therefore inspires trust not control.

The Google headquarters board room is mainly filled with managers, the only leader is that who stood up for the acceptance of Billy and Nick into the internship challenge. He did not follow the status quo or on the system and structures in place but rather on developing new different people into the Google headquarter.

Conflict is the inevitable when there are several different people working together. Conflict management is therefore highly needed in order to work effectively as a group.

As Billy and Nick are being chosen to take the intern, stereotyping takes place, as the board feels that they may be too old for the intern. This can also be seen once the two are in a group. But this is resolved through tolerance.

Working as a group, is clearly seen as a good thing in the movie. An example is during the second Google game. The sport game. Here the team loses, but once they start working as a team and supporting each other, they play a much better game. Though they do not win, they do not feel defeated as it had been the first time they had been a team. They could only work as a team after they all agreed to work together, dispute their differences.

Therefore, in an attempt to teach readers how to master conflict, Lencioni displays The Conflict Continuum which show the difference between destructive and constructive conflict. His point is that a cohesive leadership team needs to remain right in the middle not attempting to alleviate the tension, but rather use that tension to unearth the best ideas and solutions. Finally, focusing on results brings a cohesive leadership together like nothing else.…
