printing improved the way of life for many more people as printing immediately increased literacy. With more access to books and journals and newspapers it became a common activity to read. Because of the development of printing the renaissance and reformation happened simultaneously and also contributed to the industrial revolution. Printing allowed written ideas to be spread to a wider audience and reach more people. This availability created an influence so great that newspaper can be named directly responsible for the french and american revolution. Because newspapers printed to influence a revolution would obviously contain biased information, I believe that the internet would have diminished the influence to start a revolution because it would have allowed access to both sides of the revolution from the british influence side and the american revolt side and would have resulted in less people being in favor of a revolution and favor staying under british command. That may be a stretch but if people are offered information from both sides it allows them to make their own decision instead of just the information fed to them. The british tried to eliminate revolt influence by cutting off profits for newspaper companies and enforcing the stamp act which required a stamp on each paper that would equalize the profit made by that company. When books and newspapers first started circulating this was one of the first efforts of mass production reaching so many more people then ever imaginable at this time. Even though the writings were being reached by so many people, this development still limited access to people who could get there hands on a hard copy of that writing. If the internet had been available when mass media first developed, access would be limited to those who have access to the internet which would allow for a wider audience although this was unable to happen because it was like having the egg before the chicken, meaning the internet would not have possibly been around today if it were not for the origins of mass media.
