In the short stories, " The Interlopers " and, " The Story of the Hour " I am going to compare and contrast the two. In the first story, " The Interlopers " there were two men who fought for land and one day the both got caught in a storm, injured and stuck on the same land they were fighting for. In the story, " The Story of the Hour " there is a woman and her husband has died, she is in mourning and one day she is dreaming of being possessed and after awhile her sister is begging her to open the door because she is making herself ill. When the woman opens the door she grabs her sister walks down the stairs and reunites with her husband. She had died of a heart attack. It doesn't sound like much similarities in the story but if you read carefully

In the short stories “Stolen Day” by Sherwood Anderson and “The Night the Bed Fell” by James Thurber there somethings the same about the narrator's and something's different about them. They also have things different like the narrator from “Stolen Day” seeking attention throughout the story and he was envious of this boy named walter who has arthritis he gets a lot of attention. Now the narrator from “The Night the Bed Fell” he is humorous telling the story he made it his own like he was telling kids and he thinks that his relatives are crazy by what they do throughout the story. Short stories are “an invented prose narrative shorter than a novel usually dealing with a few characters and aiming at unity of effect and often concentrating on the creation of mood rather than plot.” (Merriam – Webster) These can have many differences and similarities. These factors could be the setting, the plot, the characters, point of view, tone, symbolism, theme, language, narrated time, content and more. “The thousand injuries of Fortunato I had borne as I best could, but when he ventured upon insult I vowed revenge.”…

Both of the short stories share several characteristics that reflect the concepts of Dark Romanticism. The two stories had a couple of the same themes covered, but the most evident one was guilt. In “The Boarded Window,” during the end of the story, Murlock realizes that his wife did not die, after finding evidence on her mutilated body. The severity of her illness did not allow her to respond. Furthermore, the narrator to Poe’s short story becomes overwhelmed with guilt when he begins to hear the heartbeat of the late elderly man’s heart within the floorboards.…

Two stories, the interlopers and the poison tree so similar yet so different, why don’t we compare the similarities between both stories so that we can figure out which one to “use”. Well, first of all both the interlopers and the poison tree are made special with situational irony, this is shown in the last few lines of both stories. What really set off the similarities radar, was that in both the interlopers and the poison tree the reader and the characters, were caught off guard by the sudden spectacular unexpected change in the plot. The other significant similarity that got the fire bells ringing is that both stories involve changes in character relationships. For example during the interlopers, both Ulrich and Georg have a change of heart…

Women’s roles in society were a controversial thing in the past, women weren’t allowed to act the way they wanted. In the “Story of an Hour” by Kate Chopin, Mrs. Mallard has felt trapped since her marriage but becomes overflowed with joy and the idea of freedom but in the end she dies. In “The Waltz” by Dorothy Parker, the narrator is forced to dance but she doesn’t speak her mind and acts as if everything was fine. Women’s roles in society were very similar but also different, women didn’t have the freedom to speak their mind or had freedom in general which is seen in both the stories. “Story of an Hour” and “The Waltz” are similar because both women feel freedom without the presence of males.…

The Sniper and Cranes have differences that give two opposite ideas of the story. The main focus of The Sniper targets the civil war and the repercussions that follow it, whereas Cranes focuses on the loyalty one has to family and friends. The Sniper expresses the toll the war has taken on the soldier and how it affects him by giving detail about the feelings and thoughts he has about the war. The author wants the reader to know that the sniper is dedicated to his duty and does not think twice about the decisions he has to make. In Cranes, the opposite occurs; Songsam goes out of his duty and gives Tokchae the chance to escape instead of taking him to be killed, as he volunteered to do in the first place.…

The prolonged hatred between the two families was passed for three generations due to land dispute and long lasting sequence of poaching affrays.
