Villains are by no means the nicest kind of character, but can be considered without a doubt that if a villain wasn't evil, then there wouldn't be much of a story to tell! Some villains have personalities that can make them easy to relate to, but what villain can do such a thing? Certainly not Bill Cipher from the TV series Gravity Falls by Alex Hirsch, whose insanely evil, manipulative, and entertaining personality makes him such a dangerous foe?

Bill is a Dream-Demon that has fun messing with people's minds and likes to prove how crazy he is as an example to prove his insanity to Lil' Gideon (the less than powerful antagonist of Gravity Falls) he telepathically ripped deer teeth out of a deer's mouth. -A script from S1E19 Dreamscaperers "Gideon: W-what are you? H-how do you know my name? Bill: Oh, I know lots of things! Hey, look what I can do! Deer teeth! For you, kid! (Laughs) Gideon: You're insane! Bill: Sure I am, what's your point?" He is also extremely evil and has shown to have no mercy for anyone or anything that gets in his way. He nearly killed one of the main protagonists in order to get information, both of which are children, which he got easily just by threatening it.

In S2E4 Sock Opera, the main protagonist Dipper needed to find out the information in an old locked laptop computer, in order to understand the secrets of Journal 3 and the rest of Gravity Falls, but couldn't figure out a simple password. By entering too many entries, it entered a self-destruct sequence. Bill easily manipulated Dipper into letting him possess a "Puppet" which he could've done by himself, but by getting permission from the protagonist, he possessed

When the majority of people picture a villain, they might describe one as “a cruelly malicious person who is involved in or devoted to wickedness or crime” (“Villain”, dictionary.com). Our world today is filled with more villainous acts than we can count, whether it be as small as a lie or as grand as several murders. Charles Manson was an American villain who was guilty of an abundance of malicious acts - some that sound too obscene to even be true. A cult leader with around a hundred followers, Manson and his family are “thought to have carried out some 35 killings” (“Charles Manson”, A&E Networks Television). Manson’s difficult childhood led him to create a unique character out of himself, where he developed some interesting theories and…

In “The Prairie” Bill appears to be a child trapped in the body of a strong, tall, and bold man. From the narrators point of view Bill is deemed childish and imprudent since he is always oblivious of what is happening around him. The narrator describes Bill as a simple-minded person who has a hard time trying to comprehend the circumstances that they are facing. This could be substantiated through the following quotation: “Bill isn’t the sharpest tack in the drawer. He’s been that way pretty much his whole life or at least since I’ve known him, which is close to the time he left the womb.”…

Villains are an interesting bunch in that the same person can be seen as both minor/major, or helpful/dangerous. I guess the same could be said about heroes though. Chuck Klosterman, a best selling author, wrote an essay titled “Electric Funeral,” a chapter of I Wear the Black Hat: Grappling with Villains (Real and Imagined), which details villains of today-different types of technocrats. The three “villains” he mainly focuses on are Perez Hilton, Kim Dotcom, and Julian Assange, who each vary greatly on the spectrum of their acts. Hilton is a blogger who likes to post photoshopped pictures and articles, Dotcom created Megaupload, a website to post copyrighted material illegally, and Assange is the head creator of WikiLeaks.…

Evil: To Be or Not to Be? “I think all villains have something in common: they have something that they need or want very, very badly.
