When Scout was visiting the Finches landing Francis accused her that Atticus was running the finches name into the ground: “Just what I said. Grandma says it 's bad enough he lets you all run wild, but now he 's turned out a nigger-lover we 'll never be able to walk the streets of Maycomb agin. He 's ruinin ' the family, that 's what he 's doin '." Scout after hearing this gets very heated and since she likes to think first with her fists she punches Francis in the face without any recollection. Another instance where the children 's childhood was being taken away from them by the stupidity of others was when Mrs.Dubose, an old neighbor spoke her mind about atticus to Jem and Scout. When jem and Scout were walking down the street on a summers evening, Mrs.Dubose spoke to them in a rather aggressive tone about Atticus and how he is a n*gger lover. The verdict of the trial was both confusing and aggravating for Jem, Scout, and Dill a friend of Jem and Scout, that Tom Robinson was found guilty. Some of Jem 's Innocence was robbed from him when he heard the verdict of the rape trial because he couldn 't believe that with all the clues pointing to Tom 's innocence that he was still found guilty. Jem shows his emotion towards the trial when he starts to cry from his realization of how cruel and ignorant the world can be. Also his views on life change, you can see this when he tells scout not to kill a ladybug in the house but instead let it go free outside.
