Antonio Loss Of Innocence Analysis

The fundamental of this novel was the innocence of Antonio. I believe that this novel expressed the developmental of a child who looks for answers to his questions that he is in seek-of. The growth of learning Antonio receives and his innocence that is lost. Antonio grew up in a Mexican household that was very religious and had customs in which the parents decided the fate of their future. Antonio had to grow up and decide whether he would please his father or mother. Although he had three older brothers he was chosen to pick a different path than his brothers. Antonio was innocent and did not go to school, but soon all that would change because he would become a man of learning. The story takes place in a small place in where everyone knew each other. The good and the bad that everyone did was known because the town was small. Antonio lost his ways as he got older. He learned new things from the people that he knew, as well as his surroundings. Everything had changed, even his own siblings. The theme of this novel was how Antonio grow up and lost his goodness. He would no longer be a child and do as his parents pleased. At the beginning of the novel, Antonio was a child of many questions. He wanted to know and understand how the world worked. He had seen how his dear friend Florence died and questioned the work of God. Antonio had also seen how Ultima cured his uncle, Lucas, and helped the family with the curse. Antonio wondered how Ultima was more powerful than God and the priest. He wondered how Ultima had taken away the evil that God was unable to do. She had done what God and the priest had not done. That made Antonio feel that there was something more powerful than God himself. Antonio learned from Ultima that there was power on the earth. He had come to realize how wisdom came from
