Turner was one of the most controversial case in the public and is an example of injustice towards a victim of sexual assault. During the party ,Stanford University swimmer, Brock Allen Turner, a 20 year old from Ohio was trying to flirt with a girl, yet she had no intentions of being with him. Once the girl, a 23 year old from Palo Alto became intoxicated, Turner took her to a dumpster and sexually assaulted the victim. The crime was discovered by two bystanders who immediately called the police and detained the victim. In addition, according to CNN, the case was indeed taken to trial, and Turner was accused of “assault with intent to commit rape of an intoxicated or unconscious person, penetration of an intoxicated person and penetration of an unconscious person” and was guilty of all three. However, Turner received a lenient sentence of 6 months in jail, 3 years of probation, was registered as a sex offender, and was banned from swimming by Santa Clara County Judge, Aaron Persky. Although, later on Turner was released 3 months early from jail. Overall, the case caused controversy because of the lenient sentence by the judge and it cause protests against the judge and assaulter.
