This hammer carried so much meaning within Sanders’ family. It was there since the beginning of time. The hammer was used so much within this family, that the current handle on the hammer, is believed to be Sanders’ third handle. He says there is “no telling how many handles he and my grandfather had gone through before me” (Sanders 1). But that is beside the point. Scott Russell Sanders is who he is because of that hammer. It taught him all the morals that he knows today. The hammer allowed him to have a father and son relationship, which showed him how to be a man. His father taught him the skills of being a carpenter. Not doing it just because, but to do it because it is something he enjoys, and can have as a side job. Whenever Sanders’ father was busy at work, Sanders would be in the room with him, creating his own creation. I enjoyed the relationship between Sanders and his family member. They really took the time out and appreciate one another, and treat one another at the appropriate age level they are at. Instead of being aggressive with children, they actually think about their feelings, and realize they are only little and do not know much. It is a parent’s job to be calm with their child whenever they are in situation that may be bad, or they are doing something wrong. This article made me realize that we should treasure the little things we are given or taught; some of them actually made us who we are today. We should also appreciate the people that are attached to these
