The Influencing Machine Analysis

You and Me Can Slow Down Technology Have you ever worried when a new form of technology has been presented to the world? Did you think the world would benefit from it? Brooke Gladstone says in her graphic text “The Influencing Machine” that technology innovations actually benefit the world and there is no reason to panic over them. Gladstone makes her inquiry in response to many writers’ publications, the main being Nicholas Carr’s “Is Google Making us Stupid?” Gladstone refers to Carr’s analogy of how he used to be a scuba diver in a sea of words Gladstone also mentions her disagreement to Newton N. Minnow and his disagreement with television back in 1961. Gladstone believes technological innovations and advancements are nothing to fear. She paraphrases multiple writers and authors through time who both agree and disagree with her claims. Emily Little wrote an article titled “Too Dependent on Technology?” and she talks of how things are different in the present state compared to twenty years ago. “Twenty years ago, the world had no Facebook, no Google and no YouTube. There were no electric cars, no smartphones and no wireless Internet,” Little states. While this may be an obvious statement, it is a statement people often look over and not think about or even realize. That is how technology is overlooked and taken advantage of, not that my view has changed with this statement. People do not realize how they are not doing the little things because grabbing their phone or laptop to use the calculator is much simpler and easier than using your actual brain to find the answer in which you
