Walt did a variety of activities in his early life. Some of these include delivering newspapers, working selling candy and newspapers on a train. While living on a farm with his family he also developed a love of animals. In later years he began drawing and even took a few art lessons. In the fall of 1918 Walter enlisted to join the military service but was not excepted, do to the fact that he was only 16 years old. He dropped the idea of joining the military and accompanied the red cross overseas (this means that he dropped out of high school), where he would spend a year driving supply trucks, ambulances as well as chauffeuring officials around. Walt decided that he wanted to be an artist and began to pursue that desire. “In 1920, he created and marketed his first original animated cartoons, and later perfected a new method for combining live action and animation. He called them “Laugh-o-Grams” (Walt Disney: early years). In august 1923 Walt left Kansas and moved to Hollywood where his brother Roy was preparing the beginnings of Disney Brothers Studios. The laugh-o-grams were very popular but were not providing enough income for the company so walt began a production of his own called Alice’s Wonderland. They sold the 12 and a half minute short to a new york film distributor, Margaret J. Winkler in October 1923. Margret and the Disney Brothers Studios signed a contract for 6 Alice comedies as well as 2 further series of 6 episodes (each!!).
