The Influence Of Water On Mars

Decent Essays
Planetary scientist just reported that some water carved rocks high in the mountains probably were once covered in water for the planet of Mars. It is thought that billions of years ago a a giant lake could have been on Mars. On Mars there is a NASA Curiositym Rover . The rover is exploring Mars. It has found streams and ponds on the planet already. The reason there is so much interest in discovering if water ever existed on Mars is because the scientist will know if plant and life form ever existed there. The scientist have discovered a geometric pattern of rocks known as boxwork on Mt. Sharp. Boxworks would have had water to seeping into the cement sediments in the rock. This tells the scientist that water probably existed on mars billions

This evidence states that the astronauts brought back rocks from the Moon’s surface. ALL the scientists who examined the rock agreed that it was a rock from the moon. If all the scientists were trained Professionals (like I believe they would be) then those rocks must have been from the Moon.…

The connection between my article Mars, the red planet and The Martian by Andy Weir is that Mark Watney uses Mars’s two moons Phobos and Deimos to help him travel to the Pathfinder so he can communicate with NASA for help. When he travels at night he can’t see any of the landmarks like the craters to help him know the direction he is going so he uses Phobos and Deimos to help him travel. “Mars doesn’t have a magnetic field. So I navigate by Phobos. It whips around Mars so fast it actually rises and sets twice a day, running west to east. It’s isn’t the most accurate system, but it works.”(Weir 87) Another similarity with my book and the article is that the article says that dust storms are big enough to cover the planet or a large chunk of Mars and in my book on the way to Ares 4 Watney runs into a huge dust storm and he…

This article “ Water on Mars” by Jennifer Barone is about NASA find water on Mars. The NASA know that their is freezing water on mars but never find liquid water. NASA announced that they find liquid water and something that is related to a small living thing on mars. In 2010 a college student was studying the red planet and he find dark streaks on sloped surface on the red planet. Scientist say that is possible that some kind of living thing could survive on the red planet. They also find that the water is too salty for living thing.…

Many have asked the question why doesn't Mars have oceans? A recent breakthrough discovery has confirmed that liquid water does exist on Mars. This means there is the potential for life to exist here. However, this water is very minimal compared to previous levels of water found on Mars. A study done by Geronimo Villanueva and Michael Mumma of NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center reveals that Mars used to have at minimum seven times as much water as it does today with there being enough water to cover almost 20% of mars’ surface. We know this because the isotope of hydrogen deuterium is heavily present on Mars. Knowing this allows us to hypothesize how much water was once on Mars billions of years ago. Hydrogen is lighter then its isotope deuterium so it escapes the atmosphere faster leaving behind large amounts of deuterium which seems to indicate that there was at one time a large amount of liquid water on the planet.…

There has been proof over the years of people or creatures living on Mars. I believe that astrologists and conspiracy theorists started showing interest in looking at NASA photos of the planet Mars, which caused this conspiracy. Some people believe that there are many underground tunnels and cities on Mars. Also, the United Sates government has the technology to bring humans there to live. Some say they have been doing that since the 60's. Personally, I think it is very likely that there are people or creatures living on Mars. I think it's not just on planet earth that there are living things. I also believe the proof about these creatures, as I have seen many photos of Mars with certain things looking like creatures of some sort. So I think that there may be a civilization living on Mars, I just hope they don't become evil and destroy our planet, that would be…

In the article, “Mars Exploration Rover”, Spirit became stuck in soft sandy soil. For months N.A.S.A. tried to set it free. The article states, “On March 22, 2010, Spirit ceased transmitting signals to Earth. . .” (“Mars Exploration Rover”). The article informs us that, “Spirit was launched on July 7, 2003, and Opportunity was launched on July 10, 2003” (“Mars Exploration Rover”). “Spirit touched down on January 24, 2004 in the crater called Meridiani Planum (“Mars Exploration Rover”). The article informs us that, “The rover had traveled more than 4.8 miles (7.7km) in its mobile life time” (“Mars Exploration Rover”).Opportunity, an N.A.S.A. rover, came within 220 yards of completing a marathon on Mars (“Mars Rover. . . Achievement”). In the article, “Mars Rover Nearing Marathon Achievement”, the description of the mission was released. “Opportunity is headed for a portion of the western rim of Endeavour Crater where observations by N.A.S.A.’s Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter have detected multiple types of clay minerals” (“Mars Rover…Achievements”). The report claimed, “These minerals are indicative of an ancient wet environment where water was more neutral rather than harshly acidic” (“Mars Rover . . . Achievements”). “Its twin, N.A.S.A.’s Mars Exploration Rover Spirit, landed three weeks earlier and covered 0.39 mile (635 meters) in its three-month prime mission. The article…

Long, long ago there was nothing on earth but a little teepee in a world full of grass and berries. In that hut lived two native Americans. They had a child who's name was Ashkii. There was nowhere to go and nothing to see. He was the only native boy living. One day while the two Indians were out picking berries their son wondered off having no idea where he was going. He walked and walked until he was nearly dead from exhaustion. Directly in front of him was a big plant with a clear bubble around it. He climbed up on the plant and pop the substance with his finger. Something showered down on him and created circles of blue water across the grass. This is how our lakes and oceans came to be.…

Curiosity has been inspecting Mount Sharp, a three mile high mountain of sedimentary rocks inside Gale Crater. It's mission there is to decipher the record of the planet's earlier history stored inside the layers of rock. The rover has also found evidence of groundwater and freshwater existing on the planet. This was determined by the detection of the iron-oxide mineral hematite, which is created when water alters basaltic volcanic rock, as well as jarosite, a mineral that forms when volcanic rock interacts with mildly acidic water. One speculation by scientists is that a lake used to fill gale crater and is the reason for the fine grained sedimentary rocks which reside there, but this is still only a hypothesis which needs further testing by the…

Despite the desire for the holes to be from an ancient people scientists had to rule out the possibility of simple septic tank erosion in order to properly adhere to the scientific process and pursue all data presented by the excavation of the holes. The holes were later proved to predate the tank upon the analysis of the limestone and the discovery of duracrust on the inner parts of the holes, displaying just how easily an idea can be proven and disproven in science. With the septic tank hypothesis ruled out, scientists again began to look for a people known to exist during the time that the holes were dated to. Their attention turned to an ancient people known as the Tequesta, despite documentation supporting the idea that they were a nomadic people, as artifacts known to be Tesquestian were found at the site. (Mystery…

Mars would be the planet to expect to show the greatest variation in apparent brightness as seen from Earth. None of the planets makes a large percentage change in its distance from the Sun. Mercury only makes a moderate change in its distance from Earth, which tends to be canceled by its phases. Mercury can hardly be seen except near Greatest Elongation, so it’s a never far from being a half-Mercury phase if visible. Venus makes a large fractional change only about 0.3 to 1.6 AU, but this is offset by the smaller fraction of illuminated surface, we see due to the phases. For Mars, the distance varies from 0.52 AU at opposition to 2.52 AU at conjunction. This is a factor of 5 in distance. Later it can be see that this corresponds to a factor…

Mars harboured long-lasting lakes and water streams about 3.8 to 3.3 billion years ago, boosting the odds that life may have once existed on the Red Planet, scientists, including one of Indian-origin, have found. Using data from the Curiosity rover, NASA's Mars Science Laboratory/Curiosity team has determined that, long ago, water helped deposit sediment into Gale Crater, where the rover landed more than three years ago.…

Continuing that thought, Ice dragon is considered a dangerous payload because of its mechanics made for trouble instead of research to help humanity. Ice Dragon contains the possibility to fail in reentry on Mars, many say “the question is whether Dragon, which was designed for Earth reentry, can deccelerate and land safely in Mars’s thin atmosphere”(Karcz). Ice Dragon isn’t a potential threat, the success rate of the reentry is high and landing capsules has not been a problem when sending multiple rovers. The practice of entry has increased dramatically as NASA has developed the idea of how reentry works on Mars. The idea for Ice Dragon is to grasp samples of ice located on Mars, ice specifically because it is able to hold much history of…
