The Step Pyramid The step pyramid was a very important building to the Egyptians. It inspired the construction of every other pyramid ever made. Imagine Egypt without the pyramids it just wouldn’t be Egypt. But there is some interesting info on how the step pyramid was made. First off, why was the step pyramid built? The step pyramid was built for the Pharaoh Djoser. During the 28th century, when he ruled Djoser made himself his own tomb. He had made it so when once he died he could live in the afterlife. The pyramid steps were like steps to the gods where he could live forever. It also was for Djoser’s eleven daughters so they could live in the afterlife. Djoser also made a wall to surround the area his tomb was in which was called Saqqara. Before the step pyramid was actually a pyramid it was just a mastaba. A mastaba is a house like structure built to cover the entrance to the tomb. Under that mastaba was a 90 foot deep pathway leading to Djoser’s tomb. In the pathway to the tomb were two huge stone bricks to block the entrance. At the end of the pathway is a big room where Djoser’s body is located, and the walls were covered in granite for decoration, After it was all done Djoser wanted the little mastaba to be bigger, so he expanded the mastaba and added a smaller mastaba on top of the bigger bottom one. He still wasn’t satisfied, so he ordered the architect Imhotep to add four more mastabas. So one by one workers stacked brick by brick on top of each other to form a six mastaba pyramid!
