Despite these big organizations attempts to fight the pornography industry, the moment history will change is when everyone decides to take a stand against it. It’s important for the world to understand how the porn industry really works because it will help straighten our knowledge regarding this epidemic. The ignorance of the people is allowing human trafficking to pass by unnoticed. If this generation does nothing about this problem, then it would be as if they 're spitting in the face of the victims. Millions of women and children, maybe even some men, are being enslaved to the porn industry and no one speaks against it because they can’t see the inhumane acts behind scenes. Celebrities have a lot of power over the present generation. Therefore, they can be the key to a short term solution. The use of shows, movies, and social media has influenced teens in many ways that may have been impossible 50 years ago. According to Isaac, a senior lecturer, “musicians and performers have long been considered to influence young people in negative ways.” If these celebrities can change a whole generation for the worse, they can also change it for the better. It’s only a matter of taking charge and acting on it. Every day millions of celebrities post on their social media pages and everyday millions of teens follow, like, and favorite the posts. Through this method, celebrities can bring world attention to the sexual exploitation of women in pornography and teens everywhere will be informed of the reality. The only issue here is that people are not informed. How many celebrities would know that “100,000-300,000 minors are at risk of commercial sexual exploitation” (Trafficking Within The Industry). How many would know that many performers in pornography are sex trafficked, according to the United Nations? If celebrities were to be educated, they can share this knowledge with more than half of the world.They would especially be helpful in educating people on the definitions of rape, prostitution, sex trafficking, porn, and smuggling because …show more content…
Additionally, the nation should focus on creating programs to help young teens with their self-image. A large body of people in the sex industry were driven to it by certain circumstances. However, a large percentage of women join because of a low self-esteem. According to Lara, a journalist, “low self-esteem connects directly to prostitution and porn.” Therefore, starting programs that aim at helping young girls and boys cope with self-esteem will help us in the long run. These programs will help them deal with the negative influences around them, by providing a positive environment. This program may include a fitness club to help them with body image along with a tutoring center for those who suffer low confidence from a low academic performance. These programs can be placed in schools or in communities for easier access to anyone willing to
