When we engage ourselves with media naturally we are obtaining ideas from the creators. Thus, the media can be seen as a tool that provides loads of information and ideas of how to be or not be someone, we can accept these truths or we can make up our own persona of the people we want to be. Using Japan as an example, “the media in Japan is more violent than it is in the United States…if you look at Japanese society, the rates of violent crime are much lower than they are in the United States” (Entertainment Media - does it lead or follow society?). We still have the people in our lives there to guide us, however the control is not coming from the media but from other people who use media. In fact, “people influence people, and 94% of Americans use social media to connect with family and friends, does it not stand to reason that social media has provided the channel from which friends can influence friends?” (Gallup Poll is Correct: Social Media DOES NOT Influence Purchases). In truth, saying that the media has the power to control who we are is very far fetch, however it is not a fabrication and in all honesty if we’ve been influenced to buy products, go watch a movie, or to go try certain foods through the media, assuming they were all “suggestions” whose to say that the media’s tactics to persuade and even manipulate us hasn 't gone as far as influencing the kind of people we have to be. “Everything looks and feels easier to do with social media…isn 't something strange if society is extremely dependent on social media?” (How Strongly Can Social Media Influence and Control People’s Lives?).
