Furthermore, a revision of the Honor Code will not only limit cheating and plagiarizing, but it will ultimately prepare students for their future, with the understanding that breaking rules will end in a negative consequence. Students will evidently grow out of this habit and regain morals that will improve their honesty. The students at RVHS should be aware and constantly reminded that cheating and violating school rules will lead them to be rebellious, and dishonest people in the future who don’t value genuine qualities. With college as the next step of education students must learn that acts in violation of the code will not be tolerated and can end with the student being suspended or expelled (Source C). Without strong character, honors students do not posses the leadership skills and the service-oriented attitude to experience success. Through ones service and leadership, scholarship is achieved and maintained. By making a commitment to learning, an individual effectively displays his or her character. In a way, each pillar has a connection to all of the others.…

Preventing the immoral actions while teaching the trust, the school had to maintain but fully explain about the honor codes. From the few schools, there was an already disputation towards the honor codes such as ‘students did not fully understand the role of an honor code; many saw it as another rule to obey“(Source B) which would lead to elimination of honor code, simultaneously loss of both students and school’s trust. Moreover, other problem would be students’ view towards the establishment in honor code that it might lead “skeptical” view which would lead them to be cheaters. For example, the University of Virginia expects students to write an honor statement “on every test in every class” to never “lie, cheat, or steal”, which is a component of its “well defined and policed” honor codes. However, plagiarism persists to be a complication where peers investigated “157 students...in the largest cheating scandal in memory.” (Source D). Even with the ominous honor protocols in position, this university could not alleviate this issue that countless students swore in their honor statement. The scandal straightforwardly exhibits that non-integral acts will cultivate despite the rigorous honor codes since these protocols, such as the statement, solely remind students to not perform illicit actions while failing to actually distill a lasting impact on students.…

One of the main reasons as to why the honor code at Bartlett High School is lacking is due to the teachers not properly addressing it. Not only do teachers spend little or no time at all explaining “Academic Dishonesty,” the section itself in the student handbook is barely a paragraph long. Throughout my entire freshman year, plagiarism was addressed a few times in English class, but a full explanation of our honor code was never given. Surely, many students would give a similar response if they were to be asked how many times the honor code was addressed throughout their years at school. An article by Donald McCabe and Gary Pavela provides emphasis on this: “We believe it is significant that the highest levels of cheating are usually found…
