Technology has changed the way America do a lot of business. Why go to a retail store when the internet is there to solve the problem. More people are using internet services for personal use everyday such as banking, placing orders, or just shopping. I could only imagine the tedious things in life that are being taken over by technology today, that I do not realize. “In 1964, the nation’s most valuable company, AT&T, was worth $267 billion in today’s dollars and employed 758,611 people. Today’s telecommunications giant, Google, is worth $370 billion but has only about 55,000 employees—less than a tenth the size of AT&T’s workforce in its heyday.” This is crazy to me, the most valuable company today has just a fractions amount of the employees ofcompared to the most valuable company in 1964. With in 60 years technology has destroyed thousands of jobs for top companies in the world.…

As technology becomes a more influential part of human society, questions are raised considering its impact on society. Clive Thompson’s article, Smarter than You Think: How Technology Is Changing Our Minds for the Better, addresses this issue by stating that technology has a positive effect on society. Jenna Wortham’s article, I Had a Nice Time with You Tonight. On the App., presents a similar argument, but takes a different approach, by making her argument more grounded in everyday life. Thompson’s analysis of how technology positively affects humanity can help shed light on Wortham’s observations about present day technology’s positive effects on communication.…

In the last century and a half, technological advancements have transformed American life at an unprecedented rate. The most significant effect these technologies have had on the U.S., and the rest of the world, is an increase of opportunity and influence. While technological achievements are often remembered for their improvements to American and global life, these same innovations have a history of bringing about a proportional amount of detriment to the world, although this comparable shift in scale often goes unnoticed. For instance, where medicines and vaccinations have become more refined and accessible, weaponized diseases and synthetic toxins have seen similar growth in their efficiency and availability. Understanding this technologically…

Technology has negatively changed the American food supply as well as our diets over the past 50 years. Technology is always improving to make make our lives easier by creating machines to do things for us. For example, microwaves they heat up our foods in a matter of a few minutes. Today almost everyone in the American household owns a microwave in their home. 1. Life can change quite quickly for those in a time of great technological advancement. Perhaps, in no time was this more apparent than during the Technological Revolution. From 1870 to 1920, the miles of rail line increased by seven and a half times in the US.This massive increase railroad mileage made a national market, and thus corporate entities, possible for the first time. We see this in the fact that though land used for farming grew from around 4,219 square miles to roughly 10,000, workforce in farming fell from 52 percent of the population to only 27.…

Asking someone to contemplate on what the future might hold is strange especially when they are still shackled to the remnants of the present. How can someone determine let alone imagine all of the wondrous things that the human mind might conjure up? This was especially difficult during the early 20th century when the emergence of the technological revolution and the impact of science began to take hold. The norms that were in place for centuries were becoming slowly discarded as new ones came in to take their place. Suddenly science had become more mainstream, relevant and the government was investing heavily in it.…
