The Influence Of Sports In My Life

Decent Essays
Sports have always been prominent in my life. From playing my own sports to watching them on television with my family as a fan, sports have always been a part of my everyday life. Growing up I have done a few different sports sporadically. Over time, my involvement in them has stopped but I will never stop being a fan of sports.
When I was younger, my family decided to put my cousins and myself through different sports growing up. The first sports I ever participated in were gymnastics and dance. I would go to practice when I would come home from elementary school. It was always fun meeting up with my cousins there to dance and tumble around. Our parents were happy about it as well because it gave them the chance to hang out and talk

That decision I partly made on my own and partly was influenced by my best friend to join. We wanted to join a sports team to maintain a healthy lifestyle and stay in shape after school. So, she decided she was going to join the track team and wanted me to do it with her as well. Although my best friend did quit after the first practice, I stayed and finished the season but couldn’t continue it after that year. Those were the only three sports I officially was involved with in my life and I had to quit them for different reasons.

My mom, my baby sister, and I were constantly traveling around for their practices, competitions, and football games. Even though I enjoyed doing those sports, I

I have gone from being involved, to being a fan for my sisters, and then rejoining a team. A lot of different factors caused changes in my involvement with sports overtime. Even though now I’m still not involved in any particular sport, I love to work out. I still love to run and try to make time to go on one every day. One thing that hasn’t changed though is my involvement as a fan. I have always been a big fan of sports. Ever since I was a kid, I would watch football games with my dad on TV. I’m still a huge Philadelphia fan (Eagles, Flyers, and Phillies) and watch the games with my family whenever I can. A big reason for why I’m a Philadelphia fan is because my dad was born and raised in Philadelphia. I grew up following them because he and my grandparents did and since I live so close to Philly the majority of the people in my area are Philadelphia fans. Even though that is a major reason why I started following those teams, it’s not the only reason why I still continue to follow them. My being a fan of those teams is also due to the fact that I love the city of Philadelphia. I love its history and going there with my family or friends to shop and eat cheesesteaks. That is why I will always be a fan of Philadelphia teams and continue to stay involved with the sports I love to

When it came time to choose what sport I wanted to do I chose wrestling, because as Dan Gable eloquently said “Once you’ve wrestled everything else in life is easy.” When I first started wrestling I was lazy and disinterested. I tended to float through life not putting forth my best effort. I soon realized wrestling and anything else I decided to do would require massive amounts of dedication; it caused me to reevaluate myself and what I wanted to do with my life.…

I was never a sporty kid. For the majority of my childhood, my hobbies have included reading, playing video games, and other generic nerd activities. If you had asked me if I wanted to play a sport, I would have laughed at the prospect, so I surprised even myself when I answered yes to my mother’s inquiry about joining my school’s new flag football team. I worried about it for the weeks leading up to the first practice, but eventually I decided “Why not? It may end up being fun.”…
