After Yu sent her to the hospital, the old lady denied his help, sued him and blackmailed his money. The trial lasted for a long time. Although it came to reconciliation in the end, this incident attracted lots of attention within the society, because the media tracked the report for the whole time. (Li, Li) On July 24th, 2015, an old man from Sichuan, China accidentally fell down from the bike when he was driving across the cross. After a while, a student who was riding a bike passed by and asked him about his situation. To the student’s surprise, the old man framed him and wouldn 't let him go if he would not give him the money. Fortunately, the spy cam recorded everything and it turned out that the student was completely innocent. (Li, Zhi) Helping people in need is a human nature, is where the subconscious lies. Finally Mr.Li called the police and the ambulance, the old man was sent to the hospital just in time. Mr.Li said he was afraid that he might be entailed into blackmail if he send the old man to the hospital by himself and that is why he decided to call the police immediately. (Zhao.) After a series of incidents associated with blackmail which I have mentioned above, many Chinese people now have adjusted the procedures when helping others in need. For example, if they want to help people who fall down, they will first find some witnesses and then take a picture of the scene as proof, or they will just call the police. In these ways, people can not only do the good deeds, but also can avoid situations which may get them into trouble. Demanding that something must be done to help and to alleviate the dilemma of victims disguises society’s unwillingness to deal directly with the problem of crime. In times of growing concern about crime, showing sympathy for the victim and promising a handful of dollars to victims’ programs and services relieves the pressure on politicians to confront social injustices, ethnic conflict, inequalities in wealth and power, and the frustrations of seeing too much and having too little. The trend of McDonaldization in society is characterized by its progression towards an increasingly rationalization of work. The key elements of rationality as outlined by George Ritzer are “efficiency, predictability, calculability, substitution of nonhuman for human technology, and control over uncertainty” (Ritzer 1983). In the following essay, I will be exploring modern examples of this trend, the effects this trend has on the contemporary nature of work, and how McDonaldization presents itself in our own Canadian society. I believe that the most prominent example of modern McDonaldization,…

According to Time, people who sacrifice to take care of their family members "become less healthy both emotionally and physically, since they are frequently overwhelmed with conflicting responsibilities.
