Introduction
Throughout the last half century, humans have made significant advancements in the field of technology. These advancements have included home and mobile computers which have drastically reshaped society as we know by allowing users access to nearly every resource available on the planet remotely. Technology has improved efficiency in all aspect of life to include social media, entertainment, shopping and much more. Although these developments offer many benefits, some people argue that reliance on technology can cause and loneliness for its users. In this paper, we first look at the number of American adults which utilize social media platforms as a form of everyday communications. Secondly, we will discuss positive and negative
Social Media and its influence on American adults Many adults today rely on social media to stay “connected” with their friends, family, and acquaintances. A recent study from the United States discovered that 86% of American adults (aged 18-65 and older) currently utilize the internet. More than half of these online adults (56%) use more than one of five social media platforms (Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, and Pinterest), and of the 56% of users that connected to multiple platforms, an average of 42% reported accessing their accounts daily.
