What is healthy? A question most people ask themselves. Parents beg their kids to eat meat. Because Red meat has been proven to allow us to …show more content…
This toxic reaction is caused by a natural sugar in red meat called Neu5Gc (McClees, Heather). This sugar human bodies can’t digest so the immune system tries to get rid of it but this can cause health problems such as cancer (McClees, Heather). The reason why meat is bad for humans was found but another question arised “How come other animals can eat red meat?” The difference between humans and other carnivores is that the sugar in red meats already in other carnivores and not humans (McClees, Heather). In humans bodies since they don’t have the sugar in their body the immune system sees the sugar as a foreign sugar (McClees, Heather). The immune system attacks the sugar with antibodies that cause inflammation which can lead to cancers (Knapton, Sarah). The reason this reaction isn’t accuring in other carnivores is because the meat is naturally in their bodies (Knapton, Sarah). Humans don’t have the long mouth and sharp teeth most carnivores need to eat meat (ProCon). The other difference is Humans have long intestines to slowly digest plants while carnivores have short intestines (ProCon)The next thing left to do after all the theories were made was to test it. The only thing to test this on was mice. Mice like humans don’t have Neu5Gc so when fed meat the mice developed large tumors very fast (McClees, Heather). …show more content…
It is proven that Vegetarians eat fewer calories which leaves them with less fat and low weight and lowers their risk of heart disease (Mayo Clinic).Diseases related to death have been linked strongly to death. Such as a study made of 500,000 people who ate red meat were 30 percent more likely to die of any cause during ten years then one who didn’t eat as much meat (Mayo Clinic). These results are sinking into society. This diet has become popular among athletes but can affect their performance if the diet is not planned accordingly (Kleiner M. Susan). In “The Role of Red Meat In An Athlete’s Diet” Susan Kleiner states “On a vegetarian diet it is attainable to get all nutrients but in order to do so the planning and execution of the diet is very important to the athletes health and performance.” (Kleiner M. Susan) Another diet that is becoming more popular is the vegan diet which is very hard to maintain as an athlete being the high protein of the diet that can make the athlete feeling to full to perform (Kleiner M. Susan). The Vegan diet is a diet that has no meats nor products from any animals. However there are some conditions that add on the all humans are vegans theory. This would be Milk and Egg Allergies. Milk allergies are a lot of times confused with lactose intolerance, lactose intolerance is where the body can’t break down a lactose in milk that can only
